(512) 474-ROAR (7627)
Brian Rowland has been a premier Austin colorist for over 12 years, with a career that has seen him employed at two top Austin salons over that time period. As soon as he heard that old friend and colleague, Rory McNeill, had returned to Austin with a vision for a new urban salon, Brian could not wait to join him in establishing ROAR as the destination for fabulous hair.
As a colorist with a deep love for Austin, Brian thinks that ROAR is a great addition to the city because of its uncompromising sense of beauty, professionalism and fun. His love for Austin stems from its ability to provide an environment where he can be himself with little effort.
“I’ve known Rory for years, and as soon as I heard he was opening a salon here I knew it would be a place that is dedicated to education and style", says Brian. “ROAR offers employees and clients a location that is elegant but with a talented team that is fun and humorous. I knew that Rory would take his time in hiring a team that is the best in the business because he is committed to every detail involved with growing a team that has a willingness to continue to learn from each other. What a perfect fit for me at this stage in my career." Brian first became a part of the hair industry because of his understanding of how important the role of self-image plays out in everyone’s lives. He loves being the person that connects with his clients in helping them find their personal style. Brian has been educated by the best in the business from Aveda, Vidal Sassoon, and Toni & Guy in America as well as in England. He loved education so much that while he was a colorist, he was also a color educator for five years, training and developing future colorists within a premiere salon environment here in Austin. In addition, Brian has a long track record in working hair shows across the country, including London Fashion Week.
People he sees on the street inspire most of Brian’s work. He takes cues from the individual style of characters and makes it work for others. Brian admires Vidal Sassoon because of his ability to turn hair into modern art and freeing up the ridiculous “ball and chain” hairstyles of the 50’s and early 60’s. Brian is very passionate about hair and feels that a person’s hairstyle is the frame for their face as well as how they feel inside. He believes that hair can show many emotions and loves to explore what a hairstyle can do for a client.
When Brian isn’t in the salon, you can find him relaxing with friends, listening to music at various dive bars, and dispensing funky wisdom to the public. He is a magnet to music and loves helping his friends make a timeless contribution to the world of sound.
