A native Austinite, Emily Mayes was born to style hair. With clients ranging from top executives to stylish women about town, many would say that getting a hair cut from Emily may very well be an addiction.
With over 9 years of experience as a stylist, Emily most recently transformed manes at Jacques Dessange Salon in Davenport Village where she was one of the most sought after stylists on staff. While she loved the clientele and the salon, she was ready for something new and exciting -- and ROAR was waiting for her!
“ROAR has a feeling to it that is very much elegance and class mixed with a true Austin, Texas feel,” says Emily. “They are part of the pedigree of what makes the Austin salon scene so wonderful and I’m thrilled to be on board not only working with clients, but also helping with exciting events such as Austin Fashion Week and more.”
When you sit in Emily’s chair, you know you are in the hands of an expert, and one that takes a very special interest in you. Emily is a woman of ultimate confidence when it comes to giving her clients the best cut in town.
As Emily points out, “I love what I do and get excited about working with my clients each day. It’s a passion that keeps growing and that’s the best feeling.”
Naming her granddad as a personal idol because of his unwavering commitment to helping others achieve their dreams, Emily also looks toward Robert Cromeans, Artistic Director for Paul Mitchell, as an industry idol providing inspiration and confidence as she strives toward her own professional goals.
Trained at the Paul Mitchell School in Round Rock, Emily was one of the first graduates and considers herself fortunate to have had access to Paul Mitchell’s executive level training talent in a class of only 4! From styling Barbies at a young age, to being the go-to friend for hair in high school, to then enrolling in the Paul Mitchell School – Emily quickly realized that hairstyling was not a phase in her life but rather the direction she was meant to follow.
Emily’s peers would say that she is a perfectionist who truly honors the individuality of each client. As Emily points out, “I’m dedicated to doing what is best for my clients. I always take the time to speak with my client about their hair, their life style and their personal style. Then with this information in hand, I’m confident I can give them a style they will love, can easily manage and get compliments on.”
“Emily’s talent is amazing and she has one of the best abilities to engage with clients that I have seen. Plus she really focuses on achieving a look that can be easily replicated at home,” says Rory. “She truly enjoys people and brings a great, light feel to the salon that instantly puts people at ease in her care.”When she’s not busy working on the greatest cut or up-do for a wedding, Emily can be found playing dodge ball (she’s competitive so watch out!), playing with her dogs, planning a camping trip or taking a hike. She loves traveling, and this summer she completed a 6,253 mile road trip which took her through twelve states in two weeks!
