With her laid back attitude, signature red lips and red hair, it’s important to note, Lauren Dewalt isn’t just a stylist; she is a stylist who with over 10 years under her belt decided to leave a Senior Stylist position at a well established salon in an affluent part of Connecticut to push her skills to the next level by joining Vidal Sassoon in NYC for a two year technical training program. That investment has paid off.

Salon owner, Rory McNeil, is thrilled to have Lauren as part of the team because she brings back memories of his own original training with Sassoon stylists. “There is a level of precision and expertise that can be instantly recognized when enjoying a cut by Lauren,” says Rory, “She is an amazing hybrid of classic and creative, one who always has new ideas and options while still keeping the look perfect for the client.”

Following her Vidal Sassoon training, Lauren worked in the highly competitive and aggressive salon scene in NYC for over three years. She is use to handling stage beauties from Broadway, high-power professional businesswomen and men plus she is a star at helping clients determine hair looks for day and evening.

Looking for a more balanced lifestyle, Lauren embarked on a holiday road trip to find a new place to call home -- a place where clients would appreciate her skills and she could have a more relaxed personal life. Her goal was to find a city with the right vibe; a city with the lifestyle benefits and an up-and-coming economy she could grow with. She found all of that in Austin and has made ROAR her new home.

Lauren points out, “I was willing to leave the comfort of a salon I called home to push myself, my skills and achieve more for myself and for my clients. It’s in my nature to constantly be growing and learning the latest for the benefit of clients and the salon I am part of. ROAR is committed to that level of excellence and is in a city that offers me a lifestyle that I had only dreamed of.”

Born into the salon scene, Lauren knew as a child growing up in Rhode Island and Connecticut that she felt at home in this space and that the salon world would be waiting for her once she achieved her skills. Her grandfather owned a salon, her aunt was a stylist and family members in the profession increasingly surrounded her. In her senior year of high school, Lauren began working in the well established Adam Broderick Salon and Spa as an assistant where she stayed for 8 ½ years undertaking ongoing training with Bumble & Bumble and Redken. When she left Broderick Salon for the Vidal Sassoon Training program she was in the position of Senior Stylist. Lauren trained at the Vidal Sassoon Salon in NYC as an advanced cutting apprentice where she perfected the graduated bob that Sassoon is known for and so much more.

Lauren is very free with her cuts, although her Vidal Sassoon training brings a technical side to the cut as well. Cutting hair “is like painting a picture or sculpting”, explains Lauren. “You have a vision from the beginning, but the final creation comes as you go.”

With her fun, soft and elegant style, Lauren enjoys mapping to each client’s wish and looks at each one as a new book that she is excited to read. “Lauren is the quintessential Austinite, even though she just moved to the city”, adds Salon Director, Sheila Flores, “Her energy is so amazing and we are thrilled to have her as part of the team.”

When Lauren isn’t at ROAR, you can find her exploring the city, particularly the artistic parts of the East side that she has quickly fallen in love with. She looks forward to catching live music shows and enjoying the relaxed, artsy atmosphere that Austin has to offer.
